Allendale Bakery at Elpha Green is situated high up on the fellside above Sparty Lea. Accessed via a long track, students are met at the bottom by the baker’s boy, who will provide further directions for navigating on up the hill, or accommodate passengers to ferry students up. The track has seen many improvements over the years, but it’s still a bit rough in places.
Satnavs heading for Elpha Green Cottage, Sparty Lea, Hexham, Northumberland, England, NE47 9US, should bring students to Sparty Lea, from which tiny hamlet you drive down the hill, crossing over the Sparty Lea bridge and turning immediately right. It’s signposted at this intersection, but satnavs might direct you left and up the hill to Elpha Green Farm (don’t listen to them!). Turn right and cross another small, more modern bridge and immediately find a farm track going up into the hills. That’s us.
